How to Add a Manager to a Google Business Profile

If you're working with a trusted tech consultant-- like me, Alex from Neat Freak Tech-- you might want to give them access to your Google Business Profile (GBP). This lets them help manage hours, respond to reviews, upload photos, and even optimize your profile for better visibility in search.

Here’s how to add a new manager to your GBP in under five minutes.

How to Open Your Google Business Profile

There are three easy ways to access your Google Business Profile:

1. Search for your business name

   Just type it into Google (while logged into your business Google account). Your GBP panel will appear, and you’ll see a row of admin buttons like “Edit Profile” and “Add Photo.”

   
   

2. Search “My Business” in Google

   This works as a shortcut that shows a list of profiles if you manage more than one.

   
   

3. Use the 9-dot menu in your Google Workspace dashboard

   Click the grid icon (usually in the top right corner). Scroll until you see the Business Profile Manager icon-- it looks like a cute blue mom-and-pop shop, shown below:

   
   

   

   
   

Steps to Add a New Manager to a Google Business Profile

Once you're inside the profile:

1. Click on “Business Profile Settings”

   The gear icon or 3-dot menu, depending on your layout.

   
   

2. Select “People and access”

   This opens the user management screen.

   
   

3. Click “Invite” and enter the email alex@neatfreaktech.com

   
   

   Choose the Manager role for me:

   • Owner – Full access, including adding and removing users.

   • Manager – Can edit business info, but not manage users.

     
     

4. Click Send and you’re done!

   I’ll get a notification and be able to jump in and help.

What If There’s No Invite Button?

If you make it to People and access but do not see an Invite or Add button, don’t worry. You probably haven’t missed a button. Check the role listed next to your name. You are most likely a Manager, rather than an Owner.

As a Manager, you can update your business information, add photos, create posts, and respond to reviews. What you cannot do is add or remove other people. Google only gives that permission to Owners and Primary Owners.

This often happens when:

• Your business is part of a franchise, and the corporate or listings team is the Primary Owner.

• You had a technology partner create your profile, and they made themselves the Primary Owner.

• A former employee or marketing company originally set up your profile.

If this is how your profile is organized, you have two options:

1. Ask the Primary Owner to invite your consultant directly as a Manager.

2. Ask the Primary Owner to change your access from Manager to Owner. You do not need to become the Primary Owner to invite another user.

For example, you could send this request:

Hi! I need to give my Google Business Profile consultant access to help manage and improve my location’s profile. Because I am currently listed as a Manager, Google does not give me the option to invite another user.

(Consider adding a screenshot of the People & Access list)

Could you either add alex@neatfreaktech.com as a Manager or change my access from Manager to Owner so I can send the invitation? Please let me know if there is a required process for adding an approved vendor.

One important note: don't create another profile or try to claim your location again. That can turn your access issue into a duplicate-profile problem - and you don't want that!

Start with the company or person listed as your Primary Owner and get your access properly sorted there.

Pro Tip: Review Access Regularly

Every 6 months, go into the “People and access” tab and make sure only current team members or vendors still have access. It’s easy to forget old marketing teams or ex-employees who no longer need admin or owner rights to your Google Business profile. You don't want them adding a manager to your Google Business Profiles, so keep control of the Admin access.
