Google Workspace transfer token instructions

Sometimes, working with a Google reseller makes sense - maybe you got a discount, bundled IT services, or just wanted a little extra hand-holding when you first signed up for Google Workspace. But what if you're ready to take full control and move your account directly to Google?

Good news: it's totally doable. Here's the usual process to switch from your reseller and start having Google bill you directly.

Before You Begin

  • Make sure you can sign in as a Super Admin in Google Admin.

  • Check whether your Google Workspace is billed by a reseller.

  • If you have legacy G Suite, Google Cloud, or unusual add-ons, expect extra steps.

  • If your reseller is managing the account, they may need to start the transfer from their side.

Step 1: Generate a Transfer Token

So to kick things off, you'll need to generate what's called a Transfer Token. This is like a golden ticket that tells Google, "Hey, I'm serious about this move."

Here’s how:

  1. Log into your Google Admin account as a Super Admin.

  2. Visit this URL: https://admin.google.com/transfer-token

  3. You’ll see your domain name.

  4. Select "Google" as your new reseller.

  5. Click Generate Token.

  6. Copy the token - you’ll need it in the next step.

Note: If you’re not a Google Admin, you won’t be able to access this page. You’ll need someone with the right permissions.

Step 2: Contact Google Support

Now that you’ve got your token, it’s time to tell Google you’re ready to break up with your reseller and move your google workspace account (politely, of course).

Google’s official transfer documentation makes clear that some subscription transfers involve the reseller side, and that not every subscription follows the exact same process. Google also notes that transferred subscriptions can enter a grace period and may require you to set up billing directly with Google to keep service active.

When you contact Google, have these ready:

  • your primary domain

  • your Google Workspace edition

  • ability to login as the Super Admin

  1. Login with a super admin account (start at admin.google.com to verify access)

  2. Go to: https://support.google.com/a/contactus

  3. Choose Billing & Subscriptions → Change Reseller.

  4. Select the option to Chat or Email Google Support.

  5. Provide the following info:

    • Your Transfer Token

    • Your Primary Domain

    • A short message like:“I would like to transfer billing from my current reseller to direct billing with Google.”

  6. After transfer, you will probably need to set up direct billing with Google during the grace period.

Note: the transfer is not reversible once completed.

Some subscriptions aren’t eligible for the same transfer flow, such as Google Cloud, and offline subscriptions may require a different path.

Bonus tips: move your Google Workspace account

  • This is a billing transfer, not a data migration: This process does not delete any emails, user accounts, files, or settings. You’re just switching the billing relationship.

  • Check your billing cycle: You’ll keep your current plan and be billed directly by Google after the transfer. If you were on an annual contract, be sure to review your renewal date.

  • No more discounts? If your reseller gave you a special price or bundled services, those may not carry over. Be prepared for Google's standard rates.

  • Got add-ons? If you had Vault, AppSheet, or extra storage through the reseller, double-check that they remain intact or can be reactivated directly through Google.

  • Update your payment method: After the transfer, log into your Admin Console and head to Billing > Payment Accounts to make sure your credit card or payment info is up to date.

  • Don't want to mess this up? You’re not alone. A little guidance can save you time and stress.
